252 Scheme

The 252 Badge Scheme

The 252 scheme is a fun way to measure your progress and build confidence as you work through the different distances in outdoor archery.

The idea is simple: score 252 points or more by shooting six ends of six arrows (that’s 36 arrows) at a given distance. Once you hit the target score, you earn a coloured badge for that distance.

Distances and Badges

  • 20 yards – Green badge
  • 30 yards – White badge
  • 40 yards – Black badge
  • 50 yards – Blue badge
  • 60 yards – Red badge
  • 80 yards – Yellow badge

You can tackle the distances in order, or just work at the level that suits you. The score to beat is the same for everyone, no matter which bow type you shoot – the aim is to demonstrate consistent accuracy before moving further back.

How to Take Part

  1. Shoot your round: Outdoors at the club range, shoot 6 ends of 6 arrows (36 arrows total) at the distance you’re attempting.
  2. Have your score verified: Another club archer must witness your round and sign your score sheet.
  3. Submit your score: Send your signed score sheet to the Records Officer.
    • A screenshot from a scoring app is fine, but please CC the witnessing archer when you email it.

Collect your badges as you achieve each distance – and see how far back you can go! It’s a great way to challenge yourself, track your improvement and celebrate your progress.
